The Laughing Bull comes out to play for the last time before Tribfest

The Laughing Cow Hull’s latest Comedy club present its fifth evening of stand-up comedy at the Octagon Centre inWest Hull on Saturday May 26th. After four very enjoyable evenings played to packed houses at this venue so far the fifth show will provide four new comedians aiming to tickle the taste buds of the regions comedy fans. This will be the last show here till the autumn though the comedy marquee will be a key element of this year’s Tribfest held at Sledmere during August.

The May show features Greg Cook, once described as ‘a new Les Dawson’, Harriet Dyer winner of several regional comedy awards, Pete Teckman a regular of the comedy circuit and headliner 6 foot 5 Ryan Gough a jovial and friendly comedian whose ability to build audience rapport is a surefire winner

Harriet Dyer has been described as ‘”mesmerising, completely original and in a league of her own.” She has won several comedy awards and also appeared on a number of TV programmes including Big Brothers Big Mouth.

Harriet strongly believes that she is a recently modified version of the film, ‘The Truman Show’ because life often seems too staged to be real…

”Died twice and became a human miracle (with only one lung), watched my Dad leave my Mum after 30 years of marriage for ANOTHER MAN… And to become a member of a Petshop Boys tribute band, was sacked from a directing cattle job due to the fact that I directed a rather large cow into a rather large truck, learnt how to breath fire but got confused and swallowed a large amount of paraffin, drank 3 bottles of gin and lived my life as Kat Slater (Eastenders) for a week, became an alcoholic, went to a barn dance rave and got my foot stuck in a 12ft paper-Mache donkey, was minding my own business at the beach one day…When a seagull flew into my head and knocked me unconscious, and so the list goes on!”

Greg Cook’s deadpan style and mastery of the spoken word led John Plowman, head of BBC Comedy to describe him as ‘Les Dawson for the 21st century’.

A prolific writer of comedy, he has several hours of tested material to draw on, but reserves the right to dish up a blistering set drawn from this morning’s newspapers. Religion, politics, sport, terrorism, poetry, the police, philosophy, royalty and his long-suffering mum have all been given the Greg Cook treatment, since he began performing in May 2002

Since his stand up debut in February 2008 Pete Teckman has made the progression from open mic nights and gong shows through to regular paid work thanks to his ability to produce laughs from any audience with a mix of self deprecating and observational humour as well as some surreal flights of fancy and a liberal sprinkling of well crafted gags.

Ryan Gough has now graduated to a regular circuit act, performing at every comedy club fromNewcastletoPlymouth. Being 6 foot 5 inches tall and touching on nineteen stone with a shaved head and his trademark black leather coat, Ryan can look scary, intimidating and agressive. But nothing can be further from the truth, Ryan’s friendly banter with the audience makes him an ideal compere. Whether it is encouraging the audience to singalong with various 1980’s adverts or one-hit-wonders from the 1970’s, Ryan can warm up the dullest of rooms and wake up the most moribund of audience.

Ed Faulkner is delighted by the progress of the club:

“This will be our fifth Comedy night and we have been very successful in pulling the comedy fans of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Most of the shows have been sell outs and we’d like to round off our first series of gigs with another sell-out on May 26th. I have been very pleased with the success of our shows and all the comedians and punters have had great nights at the Octagon”

This will be the last show until September as promoter Ed Faulkner prepares for the Tribfest Music festival which will be held at Sledmere House August 16th – 19th. The annual Tribute festival was where the Laughing Bull Comedy Club began last year and a comedy marquee will be running once again this year featuring  both artists who have appeared at the Octagon and further up and coming talent from across the country.

Tickets for the  comedy club are £12 in advance and £15 on the evening. A table of ten is £100 in advance.
